Chocolate Chia Overnight Oats

What’s better than dessert?? Dessert for breakfast!  Healthy dessert breakfast that you can gobble up without a second thought that is!  I love chia seed pudding, and overnight oats and chocolate, so it only seemed fitting that I mix them all together and call it breakfast.  This breakfast is high in fiber, protein and omega-3s, so it will keep you full and energized all morning!  I added raspberries to mine, but other frozen berries or any fruit I’m sure for that matter would be great too 🙂

Not-So-Chicken Nuggets

Hey guys!
As you now know, Carianne and I have been busy bees lately, but we are SO happy to be back and writing for our favorite people. It’s National Nutrition Month aka our favorite month of the year….except not really because let’s be honest, the weather in New England this time of year sucks.

Regardless, in celebration of the celebratory-worthy month, here is one of my go-to favorite “I feel like eating junk food, but don’t actually want to eat junk food and feel like s**t” recipes.” Continue reading

Easy Halloween Stuffed Peppers and Candy Corn Parfait

It’s that time of year again! Halloween is just around the corner and temptations of chocolate and candy are in the air! It’s so easy to mindlessly grab a few handfuls of candy that are sitting on the counter or in the bowl waiting for the trick-or-treaters. And Sweet on Greens is a firm believer in indulging in sweets here and there! However, when sweets seem to be everywhere especially with a holiday centered around them, it may be a little less obvious that fun, healthy food can also be readily available with a little creativity. This post will give you a terrific dinner recipe to fill up on Halloween night (or really any night!) before you head out to trick-or-treat, party or wherever the night may lead! As a bonus there is a fun dessert to indulge in as well! Continue reading

Massaged Avocado Kale Salad

So today, I was sitting at my kitchen table, sipping tea and doing everything I could to avoid the massive assignment I have time “off” this week to work on. As usual, I was thinking about food and trying to decide what I wanted for lunch, when I remembered this amazingly delicious massaged kale salad I had at a potluck over the summer. Suddenly the most important thing in my life was learning how exactly you make a massaged kale salad. The name itself is intriguing enough, and it’s exactly what it sounds like-you massage the kale. I repeat, you literally massage the kale. Continue reading

How ‘Bout Them Apples?

Happy Tuesday everyone! So as Carianne posted last week, we’re officially back from our extra-long blog hiatus and decided to kick off with a fun post this week about our weekend adventures! While things are starting to get crazy with our school schedules, we know that it’s important to relax, destress and have a little fun.

We spent our Saturday being stereotypical New Englanders and apple picking (…and drinking). Continue reading

We’re Backkk!

Well helloooo Sweet on Green fans and followers! Kara and I would both like to apologize for our recent blogging hiatus, but are feeling fantastic after a relaxing summer break and are ready to get back into our weekly blogging routine. And hope you are ready for us too! We are back in high gear at school, but we managed to kick this past weekend off with a really fun Saturday morning together. We visited a nearby farmer’s market to buy some fresh, local produce, and we followed it up with great conversation over some amazing cold-brew coffee from our local Food Co-op. And whoa what a pleasant caffeine buzz! Talk about a perfect way to start off the weekend! And of course we talked Sweet on Greens and want to fill you in on what we have in store for you as we quickly approach our one year anniversary!!! Continue reading

One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Soil….Composting 101

Happy August everyone (omg how is it August?!?). Summer is flying by wayyy too fast, and has turned out to be way busier than expected for both Carianne and I. For example, I currently have two jobs-no big deal, except they’re in two different states…I guess I just really wanted to continue my streak of not being in one state for more than four days in a row for the entirety of the summer.

Nothing Like Fresh, Summer Veggies!

Ever heard of Christmas in July?! Well I’ve been experiencing Christmas in July for the past two Mondays with my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pick up! Also I am happy to report Kara and I indulged in an amazing CSA meal together, enjoying not only an array of perfectly ripe, organic, local veggies picked that morning, but had a fantastic time catching up on all our summer adventures! I know we posted about CSA’s back in April, but if we didn’t sell you then, here is more on what exactly a CSA entails.
